Morgan Motor Company is celebrating a landmark moment in its modern history: 25 years of technical partnership and engine supply from BMW, reflecting a strong and enduring relationship between the two marques. BMW power has been a defining feature of Morgan sports cars for more than two decades, its characterful performance underpinning both the company’s current four-wheeled lineup and a number of iconic models throughout the last quarter of a century. As Morgan continues to shape its next generation of coachbuilt sports cars, BMW power will remain an integral part of the driving experience.

2025 is the 25th anniversary of Morgan and BMW’s technical partnership, a relationship that began with the launch of the Aero 8 in 2000 and has continued across decades, delivering some of the most significant Morgan sports cars in the company’s 116 year history. To mark the anniversary and to celebrate the continued partnership, Morgan has brought together 14 of the most significant and character-defining BMW-powered Morgan vehicles from the past quarter of a century, uniting them for the first time in a single, evocative gathering.

From the very first Aero 8, revealed at the Geneva International Motor Show in 2000, to Morgan’s recently introduced flagship, Supersport, this curated line-up charts a journey of technical progress, collaborative engineering, and shared ambition. Alongside these two landmark models sit a number of key BMW-powered Morgan sports cars – each representing a moment of evolution in performance, efficiency, and dynamic capability.

The 14-car line-up showcases almost every BMW powertrain to have featured in a Morgan over the past 25 years. Beginning with the 4.4-litre M62 V8 as used in the first-generation Aero 8 and continuing with the 4.4-litre N62 V8 that powered Aero 8 Series 2 and Series 3 models, as well as the distinctive AeroMax – pictured in the line-up. The final chapter in Morgan’s 50-year V8 story also features in the display, the 4.8-litre BMW N62, used in the final Aero models and Plus 8. This engine made its final appearance in core production with the last Plus 8 to be built at Pickersleigh Road, finished in 2018 and featured in the display, before bowing out entirely with the final V8-powered Morgan sports cars, a run of nine motorsport-inspired Plus 8 GTRs produced in 2021 – commission six of nine is pictured in the display.

More recently, BMW power has taken the form of the 3.0-litre B58 TwinPower Turbo inline six-cylinder and 2.0-litre B48 TwinPower Turbo inline four-cylinder engines. First introduced on the Plus Six in 2019, the B58 became the first inline six-cylinder and the first turbocharged engine ever fitted to a Morgan. Its arrival coincided with the development of Morgan’s all-new CX platform – designed and engineered in house from the ground up to have double the torsional stiffness of previous aluminium architecture, while remaining under 100kg. This represented a significant undertaking for Morgan, delivering modern performance, refinement, and capability while preserving the timeless proportions of the classic Morgan silhouette.

The BMW B58 engine also powers Midsummer, Morgan’s coachbuilt barchetta revealed in May 2024 and designed in collaboration with Pininfarina. Midsummer marks a shared focus on design integrity and coachbuilding expertise between the two companies, expressed through its sculptural form and exposed, teak-surrounded cockpit. In this application, the refinement and responsiveness of the BMW inline-six complement the car’s open driving environment, supporting a visceral and highly connected driving experience. The last of the 50 highly bespoke commissions are currently in production at Pickersleigh Road, with Midsummer production expected to conclude in early 2026.

The introduction of the B58 to the Morgan range was followed in 2020 by the B48, introduced on the all-new Plus Four. As the latest in a 75-year lineage of four-cylinder engines to power the Plus Four, the BMW B48 delivers an understated, effortless performance that feels perfectly attuned to the car’s character. The engine’s responsive yet composed nature allows Plus Four drivers to create lasting memories whether driving spiritedly along winding B-roads or enjoying the quiet pleasures of slow motoring.

Plus Four returned to the United States earlier this year, representing the first four-wheeled Morgan to be officially available in the market since the early 2000s. The partnership between Morgan and BMW played a pivotal role in helping to achieve this milestone. Plus Four is homologated for sale in the United States under the replica car rule of the FAST Act (Fixing America’s Surface Transportation), a rule that enables manufacturers to replicate models that were sold in the United States more than 25 years ago. In order to meet requirements for all states, Morgan worked with BMW, to certify an engine package to meet SPMV (Special Purpose Motor Vehicle) regulations for CARB states. This engine package centres around the B46 engine, a SULEV compliant version of the 2.0-litre inline four-cylinder B48 engine installed in Plus Four for all other markets.

Morgan’s four-wheeled lineup has exclusively used BMW power since 2020 and the latest in the lineup is Morgan’s flagship, Supersport, revealed in March 2025. Supersport ushers in a new design language for Morgan, presenting a contemporary study of the brand’s timeless silhouette, yet one that is instantly recognisable as a Morgan. Powered by the 3.0-litre BMW B58 six-cylinder engine and paired with the improved CXV platform, Supersport represents the most dynamically capable Morgan to date. Its lightweight construction, driver-focused engineering, and the engine’s immediate, compelling surge of performance combine to elevate the Morgan driving experience to a new level of engagement and precision.

Also featured within the 14-car line-up are two vehicles that illustrate Morgan’s long-standing motorsport pedigree and the role BMW power has played in it over the past 25 years. BMW engines powered the early Aero 8 GT racing programme, including entries at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and campaigns in the FIA GT3 European Championship. Representing this era in the display is Morgan’s 2004 Aero 8 LMGT Le Mans entrant. Alongside it sits a more recent example of Morgan’s continued motorsport involvement: a 2020 Plus Four race car operated in partnership with the University of Wolverhampton’s School of Engineering and racing team. This collaboration supports the development of future motorsport engineers and provides a valuable test-bed for the evaluation of production components.

The line-up stands as a clear showcase of the breadth and evolution of Morgan design over the past 25 years, while highlighting the flexibility of the company’s 21st-century coachbuilding production and the skill of the craftspeople who have shaped these cars at Morgan’s Malvern home, Pickersleigh Road, throughout that time.

Matthew Hole, Managing Director, Morgan Motor Company said: “BMW has been a trusted technical partner to Morgan for a quarter of a century, and we are immensely proud of what we have achieved together. The collaboration between Morgan and BMW continues to be a cornerstone of Morgan’s engineering and product identity. BMW’s engines have consistently delivered the reliability, performance, and character that support the Morgan driving experience, helping to deliver undiluted driving joy for the past 25 years. It is a partnership built on this shared value, as we combine our handcrafted production, individuality, and driver-focused engineering, with BMW’s exceptional powertrain technology.”

Throughout 25 years of continued design and engineering evolution, BMW’s reliable, efficient, and characterful powertrains have remained a constant, enabling each model to deliver a uniquely Morgan driving experience while supporting continued innovation in lightweight, coachbuilt performance. In that time, Morgan has become BMW’s longest standing OEM engine partner, with almost 5,000 engines supplied to be installed into cars at Pickersleigh Road. Morgan’s current B48 and B58 BMW engines are assembled in BMW Group Plant Steyr, Austria.

BMW powertrains have helped define Morgan’s modern dynamic identity – delivering engaging and responsive performance, enabling Morgan to continue its unique approach to coachbuilding modern sports cars. As Morgan looks ahead, the partnership with BMW provides a strong and stable technical foundation, underscoring a shared commitment to delivering ultimate driving joy.
